My parents gave me something no education could have taught me.
The belief that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. Not in spite of my multicultural background, but because of it.
The fact that my parents had one foot in Chinese culture and one foot in Dutch culture is a form of wealth. They knew the written rules. The unwritten rules. And how to bring the best of two worlds together. From them, I learned to navigate between Chinese and Dutch culture. Not to adapt to the norm, but as a skill to widen it. To create space for others.
It gave me a broader perspective on the world, the ability to truly see people and put them at ease. And it allowed me to bring that multicultural intelligence into the workplace. It is a valuable lens I benefit from every single day.
But I also know that not everyone starts from the same position.
Perhaps your parents did not speak the language. Had to work hard just to keep their heads above water. Had no network, or no knowledge of how to navigate the Dutch system.
And yet they too passed on the richness of your multicultural background.
Sometimes you just do not yet know how to make the most of the skills that come with it.
That is why I started Kemai Coaching. To give you that final push.
Because your multicultural background is a form of wealth too.
