1. Park your bike at a bike rack or stand
Instead of against a wobbly fence. That way, people using a wheelchair can easily get past.
2. Park your shared scooter at the edge of the pavement
Instead of in the middle. That way, someone with a pram doesn’t have to move onto the bike lane to get past.
3. Park your car in a designated parking bay
Instead of on the lowered part of the pavement. That way, people using a mobility scooter can get off the pavement without having to go all the way around.
These might seem like small actions, but they make a world of difference. For one person, it’s just a habit, for another, it’s the difference between being able to join in or not.
Accessibility affects all of us, not just people with disabilities, but also parents with a pram, older people, or anyone temporarily less mobile. It doesn’t always take grand plans or huge budgets, just small, everyday behaviours we often don’t even think twice about.
